These are universities, established in accordance with the Universities
Act 1985 (cap 210B) and The Universities (Establishment of Universities)(Standardization, Accreditation and Supervision) Rules, 1989.
They fall into the following three categories:-
Chartered Universities
These are universities, which have been fully accredited by the Commission for Higher Education.
Universities operating with Letters of Interim Authority (LIA)
These are those universities that applied to the Commission for Higher Education for their establishment and fulfilled requirements as stipulated in the Universities Rules, 1989 and were issued with Letters of Interim Authority by the Commission for Higher Education.
The Commission is working with the institutions with LIA’s towards award of charters
