For National Students Planning to Study Abroad

  • The Government may provide scholarship to its nationals and also through bilateral assistance by development partners. This is coordinated by the Ministry of Education(See www.education.go.ke)
  • Universities themselves may also provide scholarship to their students for postgraduate studies (See individual universities’ websites).

For Students Studying in Kenyan Universities

The Government, through the Higher Education Loans Board, provides financial assistance to its national students who have achieved annually predetermined aggregate points at the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (See HELB Website: www.helb.co.ke).

For Foreign Students wishing to study in Kenya

There is no financial assistance by Kenya Government to foreign students wishing to study in the country.

  • CROSS-BORDER HIGHER EDUCATION

  • Description
Cross-border higher education in Kenya is provided through the following channels:
  • Collaboration between foreign universities and local universities;
  •  Collaboration between foreign and post secondary school institutions;
  •  Distance education through foreign universities: African Virtual University; and
  •  E-Learning.
The Commission has developed Rules and regulations for cross-border higher education provided through collaboration between foreign universities and local post secondary school institutions. The Universities (Co-ordination of Post Secondary School Institution for University Education) Rules, 2004. However, it is challenge to the Commission to ensure quality in virtual universities and e-learning.
