| ESTABLISHMENT/MANDATE OF THE COMMISSION FOR HIGHER EDUCATION
The Commission for Higher Education is a body corporate with perpetual succession and a common seal, established by an Act of Parliament, the Universities Act (Cap.210B) of 1985. The Commission is mandated to make better provisions for the advancement of University education in Kenya and for connected purposes.  Vision  Quality University education that is accessible and sustainable. Mission To oversee quality assurance and expansion of University Education ensuring sustainability, affordability and relevance.. Core functions The Commission’s core functions are categorized in the following broad areas-: (a) Planning for establishment and development of higher education and training; (b) Mobilization of resources for higher education and training; (c) Accreditation and regular re-inspection of Universities, (d) Co-ordination and regulation of admission to Universities; and (e) Documentation, information services and public relations for higher education and training. The detailed functions are provided in the Universities Act, 1985 section6(a) – (s) and the Strategic Plan, 2005-2010. |
