ESTABLISHMENT/MANDATE OF THE COMMISSION FOR HIGHER EDUCATION
The Commission
for Higher Education is a body corporate with perpetual succession
and a common seal, established by an Act of Parliament, the Universities Act (Cap.210B) of 1985. The Commission is mandated to make better
provisions for the advancement of University education in Kenya
and for connected purposes.
Vision and Mission.
The Commission’s Vision and Mission are defined in the Strategic
Plan 2005-2010 as follows:-
Vision
To be a world-class body for the advancement and quality assurance
of higher education.

Mission
To ensure increased provision of sustainable quality higher education
and training through planning,coordination, resource mobilization
and information services.
Core functions
The Commission’s core functions are categorized in the following
broad areas-:
(a) Planning for establishment and development of higher education
and training;
(b) Mobilization of resources for higher education and training;
(c) Accreditation and regular re-inspection of Universities,
(d) Co-ordination and regulation of admission to Universities; and
(e) Documentation, information services and public relations for
higher education and training.

Act, 1985 section6(a) – (s) and the Strategic Plan, 2005-2010. |
