(b) Universities operating with Letters of Interim Authority (LIA)

These are those universities that applied to the Commission for Higher Education for their establishment and fulfilled requirements as stipulated in the Universities Rules, 1989 and were issued with Letters of Interim Authority by the Commission for Higher Education

1. Aga Khan University - Awarded LIA in 2002
2. Kiriri Women’s University of Science and Technology Awarded LIA in 2002
   
3. Great Lakes University of Kisumu - Awarded LIA in 2006
4. Gretsa University
5. KCA University - Awarded LIA in 2007
6. The Presbyterian University of East Africa - Awarded LIA in 2007.
7. Adventist University of Africa - Awarded LIA in 2008
8. Mt Kenya University - Awarded LIA in 2008

The Commission is working with the institutions with LIA’s towards award of charters.

(c) Private Universities with Certificates of Registration

These are those universities, which were offering degrees before the establishment of the Commission for Higher Education in 1985 and were issued with Certificate of Registration as fulfilling the requirements set out in the Universities Rules, 1989.

1. The East Africa School of Theology– Established in 1989
2. Kenya Highlands Bible College – Established in 1989
3. The Nairobi Evangelical Graduate School of Theology – Established in 1989
4. The Nairobi International School of Theology – Established in 1989
